Pete, you push the zoom ring forward to engage the power zoom function. If I remember correctly, it works fine on the K20.

I have the FA 28-80 version and only had it on the camera once that I can recall, I'm not even sure what that button does on the side of it ?? PA AS ?? ummmm

You can have this one if you want it Hefty, its in mint condition. Make me a silly offer

I thought the contacts inside the lens mount would power both SDM and the Power Zoom on the old FA lenses?

EDIT, according to Dimitrov's Pentax website the K200 DOES support power zoom
According to the information on the Pentax website the K200 does not support the powerzoom function. I sent an email to Dimitrov to inform him of this.

Did you know that you have to slide the zoom ring backwards/forwards to engage/disengage the power zoom function. I can't remember which way is which but in one direction the words Power Zoom are revealed underneath the zoom ring.
Yes I know that because I've used one on my K20D. I explained to the K200D owner who bought the lens. He assured me he had engaged Power Zoom mode and yet there was no power.

If your camera body has the two internal SDM contacts inside the lens mount it should work.
Apparently not with the K200D (and some other models). I suspect these cameras don't turn on the power unless an SDM lens is detected to save the batteries from being rapidly drained by Power Zooming.

The best thing about power-zoom is that, as Iceblinker says, when you switch off the camera, the zoom alters focus to reduce the lens to its shortest length.

A nice touch that should work with any SDM-capable body (it certainly works with the K10D, but I can't vouch for the others).
