FA 28mm f2.8 - any thoughts?

Just looking for some thoughts on this lens from people who own it.

Doesn;t necessarily seem the most common lens (in terms of availability of used examples), but as a standard prime is it worth acquiring for a reasonable price?
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

I have the earlier F 28mm F2.8 No complaints about the optical performance, but the build quality isn't great. Lots on cheap looking grey plastic, and the autofocus is a bit clunky. The later FA version looks better built.
No man is worth his salt, who has not been banned from at least one Forum, and two Flickr groups.

It's supposed to be less than stellar wide open, but very sharp stopped down. Its main weakness is apparently contrast, which doesn't quite reach the level of Pentax's other lenses. However contrast is something you can add in post-processing, and bear in mind that (since I do not own the lens myself) this is just my own inexpert summary of the Lens Reviews section of The Other Forum.

That's what I found with the copy I tried, too. The F version I settled on is sharper wide open. Same should apply to the A as it has the same optics as the F.

I'm pretty impressed with mine, it seems to be a very good performer when stopped down a tad from wide open.
I posted some images from mine in this thread.

I think it's a great walk around focal length for a prime on a crop sensor.
