(And sorry for butting in too...)
Just place tissue paper over the ring flash if there's too much power (or white cloth). Or even some polystyrene cut to size will definitely slug the power drastically.

Sorry to butt in on your sale thread Charlotte but have you tried any LCD lighting for macro yet?. I am looking at this and wondering if it would be better than a flash gun.

Ebay won't let me see your link but I've searched from the info in your link code and it looks like you are talking about one of these ?
No I've not tried one, but even photographing in a light box with a 250 w bulb I've found I still need flash - so am not sure whether that would be powerful enough on it's own to use a small aperture with.
It looks handy for being able to see when using a reversed lens on tubes or bellows though.

I think I need to clarify as I've had some helpful pms as well. (And sorry for butting in too...)

I'm using a home made contraption with an Enlarging lens reversed on it for my macro work which gives me at most 6 cms between the lens and what ever I'm photographing.
I have a home made adapter that I can use to attach the ring light. The ring light with the attachment is approx 3 cms this obviously reduces my working distance considerably as the ring light is very close to the subject.
Being this close means that when the ring light (diffused or not) flashes it misses the subject and lights up the background, leaving me with a perfectly exposed background and the subject is in shadow and in some cases a silhouette.
So as I now have a macro set up that works for me and I have no need of the ring flash any more I thought I'd see if there was someone who would like to put it to good use.
I got caught up with something this afternoon so photos will follow tomorrow.

Somewhere else.
I am selling my Doi ring flash which up until just recently was used to take the majority of my macro shots.
The set up I am using at the moment means I am working too close for the ring flash to be used and I feel that rather than just keep it sitting in a cupboard, it would be better off with someone who could get some use from it.
Information about the Doi ring flash can be found HERE
I will post some photos of it later when my K5 battery has finished charging.
I'm looking for £65.00 including postage to the UK.
Kind regards
Charlotte
