Extra competitions

I used to like the photo challenges on another website. Who would like to see more competitions and challenges here on pentaxuser?

I don't know whether I want more numbers of competitions, but what I do like is the time of shooting rules in the Fortnightly Competition.

The Weekly Competition is just to scary for anyone who hasn't got years and years of back-catalogue to choose from - its all very well having an idea to focus on, but when someone promptly pulls-out a photo they took in a stunning location two years ago...meh, forget it, move on...

Maybe have two winners for the same competition - one from any time, one from since the competition was set? Then there isn't an overload of competitions, and everyone can feel they have a chance...?

I don't enter the two that we have so I can't really comment I suppose, but I think two are enough tbh.
They both offer different challenges, and attract a loyal following.

As i said, I do like the challenges on another site.

Basically someone posts a shot of a church, and invites others to post the same subject and viewers get to vote for the best shot.

There are no time restraints and anyone gets to set the subject simply by uploading the first image.

It might be an idea to allow all user voting in a monthly kind of thang, y'know.

That is actually a good idea. People are put off entering now by the fear of winning and having to judge the next comp - some prize that is .

I probably still wouldn't enter,but it would probably attract more entries that way.

Though it could end up cliquey with people voting for members they like rather than the photo.

You mean its not already cliquey????

Or will it end up a subset of the PPG?

Competitions....so many ways to run them, but it might be nice to set a challenge competition once in a while.

The weekly and fornightly ones seem to have their niche, and in themselves are challenges to meet the brief.

But something else as well is not amiss. You can have more competitions in the gallery by clicking set a competition....

John, we need order and somebody to police it. Your steady hand and delete button is all that stop us descending into anarchy.

When some more opinions are in, that will be the time to create something.

How about a monthly competition with a specific challenge to be shot during that month? Winner gets to....win.....not to judge, but everyone chips in afterwards.

There's no voting system - yet - but I did put the idea in and it went on the wish list a while back. In the meantime we could improvise.

How about long term competitions. An annual competition with a seperate category to enter each month (landscape, potrait, macro etc.) Points are awarded for top ten places each month. Person with the most points at the end of the year gets a free subscription to the magazine for the following year?

Too long I think and to little change of wining a free subscription.
What about one every 3 months and the winner gets a free subscription, 4 time more change that way
