Existing Blad owners must be really happy with the price collapse of the H5D having paid big money for theirs.

Obviously the launch of the 645Z had nothing to do with this new pricing structure.

Either way, more choice within the same price range can only be good news for photographers.

Those price level changes were announced many months ago to Hasselblad owners and prospective owners. Most of the price level changes were due directly to upgrades in sensor technology; Hasselblad moving to CMOS. Almost all of the new CMOS level sensors have not changed prices (at all) since their release not all that long ago.

But these new CMOS sensor units will also eventually go down in price (only) once new Hasselblad technology does get released.

Hasselblad still does hold the undisputed lead in medium format; especially in terms of build quality, and (even more so) optics.

We learn something everyday, there was me giving credit to Fujinon for the H lenses.

I believe their new technology will involve DMOS photoelectric sensors.

Somebody has to pay the initial higher price, just like somebody had to buy the original 645D at its launch price. If they didn't, there would be no 645Z now.

Somebody must have paid £700 for an LED calculator at one point.

No, they were never that expensive.

I paid £170 for a Sharp calculator in 1970/72? One of the earliest ever made.
That's about £2,200 in today's pennies
