Malcolm, it's a good point. I actually wondered whether it might affect focussing since the *ist-D focusses on the hypofocal point. But I couldn't prove anything
As far as I know the lens has a two-byte ID code that is stored in the EXIF. I do remember seeing a list of them somewhere on the 'net...

I'd like to know directly from Pentax what the score is

Thanks for the quick reply.
On the matter of focus I did have a problem yesterday. The problem was not the accuracy of the focus, (that seemed to be spot on) but the focus lock would not work. For that matter, the exposure lock also would not work.
But today ..... its all working OK! I put it down to dirty contacts.

I don't know what effect it has; I suspect that it occurs because Sigma allegedly reverse engineer the camera hardware rather than pay royalties. My sigma lenses (12-24mm 4.5-5.6 DG EX and 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 APO DG Macro) aren't recognised at all, they appear as -- -- --. However I haven't noticed any problems at all and get super results when shooting RAW and converting via Rawshooter premium.

My Tokina ATX-Pro 80-200 F2.8 records as a FA 28-105 (even when it's at apertures and focal lengths that lens is not capable of) but it doesn't appear to affect anything as far as exposure or focusing goes.

Does this approximation affect the MFT value .... or anything else?
Malcolm.
