Exif data

Thge competition rules require the Exif data to be saved with the photo. However, when I resize to 800 pixel across (the maximum)and save as a jpeg, I seem to lose the exif data.
Any ideas?

With the Weekly Competition, there is no need to resize (it is done automatically).

For the Fortnightly Competition, I use Photobucket as my host site and set the 800 limit there, rather than specifically resizing anything.

There is no competition rule that requires EXIF data.

The EXIF info in my case is always inaccurate. It invariably states that my pictures are shot in shutter priority mode whereas I always shoot aperture priority. The shutter speed often indicates some obscure mathematical concoction such as 8000th of a millionth of a second or some other mystical figure.
Since I started shooting everything in RAW and then converting to TIFF for the final image much of the data is missing in the published EXIF.
When I posted a picture which was scanned from a slide the EXIF said the camera used was a Nikon. In fact it was a Nikon scanner.

When you use Photoshop or Elements and use option; Save for web, you loose Exif indeed. Just save as, after resizing. That should leave Exif intact.

Metadata can be very convinient for archiving your shots too! So I (as a professional photographer) always keep them included in my files. If your imaging software trashes these data, export them before prosessing the image en import them after processing. A very powerfull tool is the (free!) PhotoME. With this tool (look for in on the Internet: www.photome.de) you can import and export EXIF data, IPTC-data (In IPTC you can also set your copyright notice, address, etcetera) and GPS-data if you like.

The fortnightly competition was put up by an individual member and he set the rules for that.

Those rules do not apply to anything else. In other words, they are not global to the forum.

I use an old version of Photoshop (v5) which pre-dates the digicam revolution. Hence it knows nothing of metadata and trashes all of it whether "saved for web" or just simply "saved" in the normal way. Oh well, it's still not enough of an annoyance to tempt me into upgrading...
