Some very effective processing Philip! No one would know about the stitching if you hadn't mentioned it
Yes, the D FA28-105 is very useful on APS-C .... its my most used lens now!
I'm wondering if I detect a little distortion effect on your image there .... I sense that there is a sort of barrel effect, turning slightly outwards at both the left and right edges, at least I get the that impression. No doubt an easy fix with distortion correction.

Thank you for viewing and commenting, Nigel - perhaps I should have kept quiet about the composite! You make an interesting observation re. barrel distortion, which I admit I can't see! I have made 10x8 inch prints of both images and the left of the tower appears to me to line up along the straight edge of my ruler.
I wonder if what you are seeing might be my interpretation of the perspective of the scene. For tall buildings shot from near ground level, I always leave a tiny amount of vertical convergence because, in my view, making verticals parallel can give the impression that the building seems to get strangely wider towards the top.
Cheers.

As Nigel says, if you hadn't mentioned it then nobody would have known about the stitching. Lovely result.

The day was dull, so the light was not very favourable. I had the K-3 with the new DFA 28-105 zoom which seems excellent to me on APS-C. However, I could not get back quite far enough to fit the cathedral comfortably into the frame at 28mm, so I took two hand-held shots - top and bottom in landscape orientation. These were then stitched together on the laptop by the free Microsoft ICE software. (Viewing the original at 100%, I haven't yet managed to find the join.) Using PaintShop Pro, the resulting colour image was cropped slightly to 5:4, and some adjustments were made using the histogram tool and the unsharp mask tool.
The mono version was produced from the original stitched colour image using the free Nik Silver Efex software, based on Preset 005 High Structure (harsh), and with a few extra adjustments in PaintShop Pro.
Any comments welcome.
Cheers.
Philip
