I have my suspicions about this test. The Canon looks sharper, but the Pentax doesn't look in focus and at f/9 that takes some doing

Against the K-5 it's the same?

The Exif according to Photome does not recognise the lens on the Pentax, so I suspect it's a 50mm f/2.8 Sigma

It's quite good, isn't it? Holds up well against the K5 IQ wise, and noticeably outresolves the Kr. Based on this test, this camera would seriously sway me from the Kr, if I was looking for an entry level camera. I like the swivel screen.

I hope swivel screens come to Pentax DSLRs at some stage.

Comparisons are really difficult with DSLRs because the result depends so much on how the camera is set up. There's the default settings as supplied, but apart from that all of them can be altered to taste quite extensively.

So should each one be fine tuned, and to what standards? Even the RAW output from each will be different.

If you download the JPG's and look through a viewer that allows compare such as Farstone the Canon is way sharper than the K-5

The trouble is Pentax don't really have a standard lens suitable to do this kind of test, unless the 50mm f/2.8 Macro is still available? The 50mm FA f/1.4 isn't the sharpest chisel in the toolbox

The test should also be done at f/5.6 these kind of lenses (apart from the macro fall off at f/8 )

They should use a sigma 50mm that one is available for all brands i believe so you take one random thing out of the equation.

I think Imaging Resource use the Sigma 70mm Macro on all their camera tests. They don't seem to have done the 600D yet. They also take several shots to get the best focus.
