I have been trying to photograph bees this afternoon - took 25 shots and binned them all

Nice shot MXverteran it looks very much like our Aussie Huntsman but a little smaller.

I was out chasing bees also and most went the way of the recycle bin but i did get a couple that were ok.
Taken with the D-FA 100mm macro

While we're all chipping in with our 'walking around the garden' shots, I took 10 mins off work yesterday to test myself and my lenses against the best shot out there - Dan's Hoverfly. The only so called macro lens I have is the Tamron 70-300 (which usually collects dust) and I had 1 hoverfly to chose from but, purple fringeing aside, they are almost usable. Still no cigar tho'.
