I use an IST-DL and I am going to Bruntingthorpe tomorrow for a Subaru track day and I am currently using NiMH batteries and I am struggling to get a full charge in the damn things... Me thinks the charger maybe fubar!

I am considering trying the Energizer Advanced batteries and was wondering if they are ok in my camera and if any one has used them?

Or am I better of using a couple of CR-V3 batteries?

Chargers are pretty cheap, so I would invest in a second one anyway. But the problem may be the batteries. Many people now use Eneloops, Infiniums, or Hybrios, which retain their charge much longer.

7 Day shop is a good source. Try these:

I think Energizer Ultimate Lithium, disposable, AA batteries will be fine in your DL for tomorrow. I have got my mother using these, found cheap on the web, in her compact camera as she is always forgetting to charge up the NI-MH set.

I agree with George though that in the long run you should sort out your charger and/or get a decent set of rechargeables.

When I bought my *ist DS new, way back in 2005, it came with a pair of CR-V3 lithium, disposable, batteries. I put these to one side and went down the rechargeable NI-MH path. However around a year later I suddenly needed a spare set of batteries and used them. I was very impressed about their longevity in the DS. I then always kept a pair as an emergency backup until I replaced the DS. Again to be economic you have to hunt around on the web and look out for special offers.

Energizer Lithium's are great batteries and last for ages, well over a 1000 shots in my K200D.
Get mine from Superdrug 4+2 free for £6.85, in fact use them exclusively now

Probably cheaper using rechargeables, but for convenience you can't beat them, fair bit lighter too

I use Energiser Lithiums in my *istDL2. Actually come to think of it I haven't run a set flat in it yet! It's my second body so doesn't see the use my K10D gets, but it's taken over 1000 shots on one set and is still showing full power.

Over time the NiMHs are almost certainly cheaper, but the Lithiums last so long and have a 10 year shelf life so you can stock up with spares and not worry about them.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Thanks guys!

I have taken Leytono's advice and skedaddled down to Superdruggy and got a 6 pack. Hopefully they should last me a good while as I won't be using auto focus!

I'll let you know how I get on... Hopefully post a shedload of photo's to from the event!

These batteries are superb...

A full day shooting and they are still showing full charge! Fair enough I didn't use auto focus. I am very impressed.

Maplin are doing their own brand lithium AA's, £3.99 for 4 at the moment.

I use them in a small compact I carry everywhere, don't take a lot of pictures with it but they have been in the camera for about3 years. Used it this week, no problems, still plenty of life!

Does anyone know why you can not use CR-V3 batteries in the K200, when you could with the K100?. Pentax have moulded the battery housing so that CR-V3 batteries will not fit.

Simple. Generic batteries which won't fit cost £3.99. Pentax branded ones cost £39.99.

All AA batteries fit, It's the CR-V3 power packs that do not.

Sorry. Are you saying that Pentax don't supply a branded battery for this model? If so, I am as confused as you.

Many of the Pentax bodys just use "AA" batterys upto the K200,and the Energiser lithiums are very nice they just seem to last the best.

That is right the K200 and K100 were both supplied with 4x standard AA batteries. In addition in the K100 you could use 2x CR-V3 power packs, again none branded. However with the K200 the option of CR-V3 has been removed by a change in the body moulding which physically prevents loading them.
