Electro Spotmatic.

Here is the camera and lens, spotted by jonSchick in central London, last week.
Beautiful, but not working properly. Our favourite Pentax repair specialist, tells me that it is no longer repairable... Not by him, anyway!. I bought it for the lens, which will clean up nicely. The body goes on ebay tonight. With a bit of luck, someone, somewhere in the world, has a perfectly working one, with dented and brassy top and bottom plates, who will pay excessivly for a donor body. I'll be happy just to get my £29 back, though!

I thought it was a nice looking camera! It was worth paying that for the lens though... I don't have the equipment or knowledge to strip it down, but it looked as if it would clean up nicely with a bit of tlc.

The lens alone is worth more than you paid. My guess is the body will sell for a reasonable price even as is as the model was only sold in Japan and is more unusual than the ES or ESII. My guess is that it is impossible to source the electronics any more.

There are quite a few watchers already, but I suspect most of them are some of you lot, being nosey!

Womble, I can see why you like your ES so much. These are lovely cameras, and I am now set on finding a nice working one, for myself.

I really must buy an SMC Tak 55mm f1.8 and some strap rings (if that's what they're called - I mean the big triangular things that the strap goes through) for my ES II then try it out. I bought it for £10 last year minus the battery cover, I've managed to bodge one from plastic sheet and copper tape so the camera now works. Although, that said, it doesn't feel different to the K series bodies I have which are a lot more flexible as all but my DA 18-55mm will work on them!

If that body can be fixed, there is a gentleman in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee (USA) that used to work for Honeywell for years and then a repair shop and now has his own shop. Many of us collectors in the U.S.A. and Canada use his services. He has the proper Pentax tests.

Thanks for the link, but body and lens have new owners, now.
The body sold for £48 and the lens for £83. - Not bad for a £29 gamble!

I have been around for a while but haven't posted much. Glad things worked out for you. As it turns out, Eric only works on the ES and ES II because of the circuits in those Electro all being nearly one of a kind or prototypical.

The way I see it with a non working Electro, there are 2 basic options. Keep it for historical purposes or put the top plate on a working ES.
