Eider Duck
Comment Image

Dusted down my old Tamron Mirror lens, and took it out on my K-x for the first time. I was trying to capture the complete duck, but failed. Hopefully retrieved it with this crop.
ISO 400
Aperture f8
Shutter 1/800

Wow , pretty good, shame there's not more light in the eye though.
C&C welcome.

The sharpness is better than I would have expected from a mirror and 400ISO.

It would be a good shot if you could lighten the eye a bit. If you have the RAW it should be possible.

Excellent detail (apart from the eye ), really shows off what this lens is capable of. Makes me think perhaps I shouldn't have sold my Tamron 500mm!

Good points made on the eye. Can't see any catch light at all in Lightroom. I'd have to put one there in Elements. Maybe, I'll try and take it again instead. Hope weather brightens up for the weekend, and its still there

The problem is due to the tonal range available. In bright sunlight it's not enough and having white feathers doesn't help. (The duck not you )If you try 100ISO next time it might just catch a bit more shadow detail. Even lightening the jpg you posted does show the eye.

Very sharp shot considering the lens.

I too have many no-eyed Eider ducks. Very hard to catch their eyes.

Nice shot - I think you were shooting in challenging lighting conditions and resulting significant dynamic range - getting the eye without completely blowing the white highlights was probably too much to ask.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm really pleased with the lens. Haven't used it for years. ill try and re-visit. I'll post on here if I get something better. Algi would be struggling to get ISO down to 100 and handhold

Nice. The ripples make that shot.

The lack of eye doesn't bother me. In fact I think it's better without it. Everyone else's duck picture has an eye.
