Ebay`s ok by me

just received a Sigma 24-70mm F3.5-5.6 Aspherical AF which I won on Ebay for £15 + £3 p/p - boxed with a Hoya filter and indistinguishable from new.

Says on the box and in the `structions that it is for PA-Z ( Z series ) and Z70 or otherwise only usable in manual mode not autofocus ????

Tell that to my K20D - seems very happy to autofocus to me - early days but what a lovely light lens compared to the 24-70 I sold to Davex - and at that price what a bargain ??

Isn't it a great feeling when you score a bargain? I felt quite similar when I got my Tamron 70-300 for £26, and a 50mm Meyer Gorlitz for £4.

On the other hand when it goes the other way you feel a bit depressed. I got distracted and forgot to bid in the last few minutes on a Samsung 50mm f1.4 on ebay a few months back. I was sitting in front of the PC waiting for it too, but my wife started a conversation It sold for £35... Gutted!

Last weeks find: A Pentax-M 35-70mm f2.8-3.5 for £16

It's a bit scruffy on the outside with a couple of scrapes/gouges and worn paint, but the optics look mint apart from the usual dust. It cleaned up very nicely and will be going on my MX, as it's more flexible than the 50mm, not much slower, and the image quality isn't far behind.

I'm actually wondering if this lens was planned to be released with the K series, but postponed and ended up as an "M". Dimitrov lists a prototype K 35-70mm f2.8 constant aperture that looks very similar indeed, and the lens has the characteristic ribbed areas just in front of the aperture ring that seem to be a feature of the K series. Did Pentax attempt to offer it as an f2.8, decide that it was too expensive or not good enough, and then rework the design before releasing it in 1979 as part of the M series?

Bargains? Hmmm...i found this last night which stinks a mile off as being stolen, reported it and got a "not our problem" automated message from Ebay. Sigh.

I think it comes down to reading listings carefully and looking at their other items. In the case of that zoom the seller said that they had used it on their LX for years, admitted it was a bit scruffy but said that the optics were perfect. They clearly knew what it was and how to use it, which suggests honest enthusiast. Equally, if all their listings are used camera gear and they sound like they know the subject it's usually a good sign.

Scam artists don't usually bother to research what they're baiting their victims with, and aren't likely to construct a scam around ancient manual lenses. I would be more suspicious of things like "NEW Pentax K-X" where the photo is a library shot and the description has been copied directly from the Pentax website. Ok for a dealer site with a proper address and phone number but I wouldn't go near an ebay listing like that.

ive bought and sold a fair bit on ebay, but it has changed over the years for the better

now if there is a dispute, ebay refund your money and then chase a refund from the seller. Good news

just recently bought a new pentax DA 50-200 lens for £89 - quite happy

There seem to be a lot of the DA 50-200mm zooms about at low prices at the moment - presumably these are either split from kits or discounted due to slow sales?

Perhaps the 50-200 WR version is more desirable, pushing down the prices of the others ?

Yep, but these are brand new boxed lenses!

I have thought about buying one, but given that I have 50mm and 200mm primes along with a 28-80mm and 100-300mm I think that range is pretty well covered...

I was intrigued so I had a look. It doesn't look stolen at all to me?! What makes you think it is? If you look at his history he's sold a few camera bits in the past (not all at the same time, so it wasn't the results of one heist ).

Same here, pretty poor description but nothing that I can see which would make me think twice about bidding.

what, a top of the range photography bag that is photographed incredibly badly with a mobile phone and a description that tells you nothing about it and sounds like the owner has no idea what it is... ah...hang on

Ahhh...its was redone completely after I saw it, looks much more convincing now... hey ho, who knows...


Anyway, I just recieved an immaculate Lowepro Classified off there so my BBA has been satisfied for the moment!

Also won this week on there has been a "Bokeh Monster" (Pentacon 135mm) - shall see if it lives up to the hype, for
