Ebay at it again!

Unfortunately now they have doubled their fees on an auction sale this is the cheapest way to get the maximum price.
For instance on a £100 sale they now take £10 instead of £5.
There is a lot of 40p relistings in £5 and if you get lucky after 2 or 3 then you are well in pocket.

I would say not worth it on anything of lesser value but more so on items with a higher one.

It's all the new rules that eBay thinks up that are causing the problems, so please don't get the government adding even more to it.

IMHO the last thing we need are more laws.

why don't more of you offer your goods in the classified section here ?
you know the people are regulars to this site,and most of all, a nice community !!!

Also, to be fair .. most people on here have an idea of the value of an item they are buying which normally does not match the sellers.

It doesnt happen that often now unfortunately.

Best one i had was i had a customer trade his pc in for a mean gaming system. The one he traded in was by no means slow , it was almost top spec.

Gave him £250 off the new one thinking ill make £100 on it to cover my profit and sold him the new one at just £50 profit to get his business, meaning £150 profit which is what i normally make per system. Put it on ebay and had a girl from cardiff put a massive max bid and in the end it sold for £640! That was about £100 more than they were going for in shops. She paid by bank transfer and ended up making £440 from one transaction.

Because they would get less interest and less money than they do from eBay!! For all the whinging, eBay is still an excellent marketplace.

If they did, then ebay would do what the banks do and get the money some other way.

The government would probably put new requirements on sellers and might well ensure that all accounts were logged with HMRC. This might trouble some sellers quite a lot!

Ah, good point. I'll not type that letter just yet then. I suppose we can't get something for nothing. All those billions of dollars of profit does seem outrageous though.

Lots of things don't sell. This is microscopic compared to ebay.

Ebay's policy is bull****. If people don't like paying too much for P&P... DON'T BUY IT. I don'r see what the issue is.

I've seen items of similar weight via same mail being quoted at prices that vary by a factor of 2 or 3. So someone is ripping us off on postage, thats fine as far as the total price is ok, I'll buy.

Royal Mail costs are now quite expensive, (Recorded and Special Delivery.)
If you sell anything of value it is essential to send with insurance.
And I believe Ebay require it, for many items.
I would not send an expensive DSLR in ordinary post with out insurance and to be signed for.

Yes, some people charge ridiculous amounts for P&P. Probably because the final value fee does not include postage costs. This means that the seller gets to keep more of the total. It is objectionable, but If I want to pay, for example, £20 in total, for a lens and the seller is asking £3 postage, I will bid up to £17. If he wants £17 postage, I am only going to bid up to £3. Whichever way around it is, I will be paying £20. The only danger being, that in extreme cases of reversed values, like the example I gave above, is if the item is faulty and needs to be returned for refund and the seller will not refund postage charges.

You simply put a claim into Paypal, they refund the full amount you paid.

I've just noticed that camera Handbooks have to be advertised with FREE postage!!!

Yes they have been doing that for a few weeks now .. same as camera accessories (batteries, memory cards etc).

This is going to stop a lot of people advertising, what's the point in a free listing if you can't cover postage costs?

I'll happily sell for 99p if I can charge relevant postage, but not being able means that at 99p some things cost more than that to post (ink refills for example!) so the only answer is to put it all on the start price and cover costs that way.

Hardly 'free' postage!
