It doesn't seem to pose much of a problem. I have an M 50mm that I had to completely strip and rebuild to remove fungus from, as a result of which it gained a noticeable number of dust particles (the sort that are too fine to see, but show up when you shine a light inside). It still takes perfectly good photos!

Almost all lenses will get a few tiny specks of dust in them over time.
As Stefan says, in the vast majority of cases, this has no effect on image resolution or contrast. Most old manual focus prime lenses are quite easy to strip and clean if there is a lot of dust and/or fungus growth. I've done it myself in a few cases of bad contamination. - Don't tell Mr. Riley, though... He doesn't like that sort of thing!

No man is worth his salt, who has not been banned from at least one Forum, and two Flickr groups.

I have lenses with dust inside and two with scratches (CZJ and Pentax 135mm) and no discernible effect.

Scratches will usually cause lens flare and/or weird "artifacts" under specific lighting conditions. I know I have a night shot taken with my battered A 28mm where a streetlight has gained a smudge of light alongside it as a result of the scuffed front element. Should have used a lens hood!

My DA17-70 has a couple of obvious internal dust spots, I regularly have shots from it printed at 18x12inch and I've never noticed any effect of the dust

Whilst I cannot tell any differences to the images would this concern anyone if their glass had some dust specs ?
If so, what would/can you do about it ??
Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
