A couple from Dungeness in Kent, plan to go back to spend a couple of hours there, unfortunately the weather was pretty grim so I didn't stick around long this time

Thanks for the pointers Gareth, really helpful, I've uploaded the images again, how are these?

With the first one, I think it looks like the sky is just blown out now, and some of the steam is lost in that.

I'm still learning about post processing, and I really enjoy B&W so any help is greatly appreciated!

I also found and removed the dust spot, I really need to start looking harder for dust marks.

Personally, I think the train is too tight now. If its moving it would benefit from space to move into. Maybe 2/3 of the space you originally provided

I agree. The train needs space to move into and in the second crop it doesn't have that.

Takes me back to childhood holidays near Dungeness, and riding the RH&D!

Yep - getting there. Still lost a little of the highlights, unless its the monitor I'm using on the work laptop. Better with the space for it to travel into IMO

Yeah I think I prefer it with a bit of space too.

Any idea why photo viewer, light room, and photoshop seem to display whites with a yellowish tone to them?

In the picture, on the right hand side is how it looks in photo viewer, light room and photoshop, and on the left is how my browser displays the image. Also if I set the image as my desktop wallpaper the yellow tone is gone and it looks like the image on the left.

I have no idea how it looks on other peoples machines as a result.

Windows Photo Viewer may not be colour managed.

If you stick to sRGB for all your images there won't be a problem.

Thanks, I set the ICC profile in windows to sRBG IEC61966-2.1. This fixed the problem with photoshop and photo viewer but in lightroom I still get a yellow cast. It's not just the image either, looking at the histogram that's yellow aswell.

Yeah driving back we went along the sea front, I was spotting shots out of the car window, loads of old boats, bits of engine and other junk by the looks of it.

looking forward to going back when the sky isn't grey and I need a coat.

nice shot btw.
