Dull but Nice - Ullswater

Decided to take my lunch break at about 8am this morning as it looked slightly interesting down Ullswater from the office window. Gorgeous low cloud but not a lot of light hence b&w. I appreciate my processing skills are not marvellous but would appreciate any advice on how best to capture the scene in low light. All the captures were quite grainy - taken on a K-X with Sigma 10-20 - one with the white border taken with a B&W110.

Should have added that the last one was a blend of 4 or 5 as I was struggling to get any light in the trees. Does look a bit better bigger.

You've treated these with just the right amount of processing - knowing when to stop is a skill in itself.

I especially like the second one which, to be honest, I think is a brilliant image. The grain (noise) doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Lovely shots. First one is my favourite, but they all have a lovely mood. Definitely wallhangers!!

Damn. That's it. I'm moving! Flippin' boring Essex - very flat farmland as far as the eye can see. Very nice shots, fab clouds in the 2nd and 3rd, and I love the mist coming over that headland in the 2nd.

A very nice set, particularly No1. However, I do feel there would be a slight improvement if the reflected scene was just slightly darker than the top half. To me it would make them look a bit more natural.

Thank you very much folks

Davex - I know what you mean - I would have liked to have a bit play with my filters for that but I have a wee problem. I've broken 5 in the last few months falling on various crags (and even on the odd flat bit). The only one I have left is a 0.9 soft which has a chunk broken off the top left and a chunk off the bottom right - just enough in between to cover the lens. I used to put a soft grad in upside down for the bottom but theres nowt I can do about it at the moment.

Having looked at them again the first wasn't with the B&W110 - it was a normal exposure - got them mixed up and uploaded the first one I took from that position.

Great pictures, I can't decide if I like the first or the second one best: I love the composition of the first and in the second one the clouds are amazing. Nice work, and the processing is spot on.

The whole set is good, and No 1 might just make it past the post without the white border.

Cheers again folks - very lucky and I know it. Just back from a 'wee' visit again this morning. No colour this morning but another glorious morning to be wandering the shores of Ullswater. Bits of mist here and there and very calm - unfortunately as the skies improved I had to come home

Don't know about the PPG - first go seems to have failed so I'll probably hang back a bit again and just enjoy taking the pics.
