Drogari is a ruined village about 3-4 kms from my house, the church is used once a year on the saints day, my friend Jango (in the photo) has the key and keeps his sheep food inside... Oops ... there it is (must be very slow to load) ! What a pity that it's no longer in frequent use.

Yeah ,I' like one day to try to capture the feeling of the village of Drogari, it's beautiful but somehow sad . maybe a job for Andrew. I think most of the painting was done around 1900s the colours are breathtaking, The church is about 230 years old and dedicated to St John.... It's hard to be exact with these kind of things but the date on the painting of the cross is 1908 ,hence my guess around 1900 s.. jeff

Jeff - how big is this church ? Is the Iconostasis still standing or indeed was there ever one ?

I'm fascinated

TT it's very small 3mts x 6mts and yes it's complete with the Iconostasis and is used for Saints days every year with a large turnout from the surrounding villages. But the village of Drogari is ruined and the last inhabitants left in the 1970s when the spring dried up, no electric no mains water no sewerage. In the 2nd world war my friend Gourgos lived there and his father sheltered British servicemen in his house. As is said before I wish I could capture the atmosphere of this place and post them for you to see. ....Jeff
