I think a lesser contrasting background might make this image more interesting, or even a monochrome conversion.

The stack seems to have worked well but at f8 I'd expect most of it to be in focus anyway.

Try the same shot but at f2.8 with about 10 - 20 shots at different focus points.

The image of the paper wasp's nest below is made from 22 individual shots and stacked using CombineZP.

Thanks, Peter.

I used f8 (& 100 iso)to keep IQ up as much as poss. in each shot, it took all 5 to achieve complete focus in the stack, even at f8!
Fair comment re the b/g, though!

Didn't you have lots of adult-wasp-complaints?!
Great (stack)shot!
(Got any more?)

This was a 5 shot stack ... I did take more but only used 5 as I only wanted the antenna and eyes in focus.

One reason I like to use longer macro lenses is to keep as far away as possible from stinging, biting, and other potentially harmful (to me) subjects. The wasp nest image was taken with a Sigma EX DG 180mm 1:3.5 Macro lens.

This is a not so good image of a pine processionary caterpillar. There are only 3 shots used in this stack but because the caterpillar was moving you can see some blurry hairs if you look closely.
