Does the 18-55mm perform ok on k20d

Perhaps it's just simplified as the camera it's bundled with is aimed at "beginners" and maybe they don't want to intimidate them? How many folk moving up from a P&S have ever focussed a lens manually before - and if they get hooked enough to want to explore hyperfocal distances in the future then I'm sure Hoya would be happy to sell them an upgraded version of the lens...

That's no excuse! The II and WR versions have distance scales, just not the L.

I'll stick to my Mk I as it is a good lens and I am very happy with it. I need no excuses not to buy lenses, I have more than enough excuses to buy yet one more lens...

I would have done just that had I not bought my K20D from a forum member who had purchased it with a DA* 16-50mm. I did try and persuade him to chuck the lens in too but for some reason he was a little reluctant...
