recieved my K5 11 yesterday and put battery on charge, after many hours the light had not gone out and the charger was very hot to the point that the battery was starting to get warm. never had this with K7 or K5

It does sound suspicious that you may have a problem with either the charger or the battery.
If you try it again then it might be wise not to leave it unattended.
Do you have a spare battery to try in the charger?
If you put the battery in the camera does it work/show a full charge?

Do you want to borrow a charger so you can identify the issue ?

Thanks Percy ,i would suspect the charger rather than the battery as it did work and showed fully charged, will definitetly not leave it as i had one catch fire when i was working and know how quick that went up. thanks for the offer Chris but at the moment both batteries are fully charged, will try the second one when it is depleted ans see what happens. posted really to see if anybody had had a similar experience

It can happen that charging takes several hours and sometimes the batteries can become warm. However, they should never become hot. Sorry that's beautifully vague, but I don't have any actual temperature measurements!
Best regards, John

K7 and K5 never even got luke warm and they could be on for hours sometimes, the other thing is that this charger does not appear to shut off when battery charged ,the light is on permanently. which i thought i had seen reported here a while ago as happening to some chargers, hence my post.
things have moved on as seller will replace the charger, which my gut feeling is telling me is the problem, thanks for all the replies.

Ditto, and not even with a cheap 3rd party one from the Far East (or with those for the other Pentaxs I've got/had
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)
