I don't have any photos of football. I do however have a few snaps of a kids rugby game. Rugby football (to give its proper name) was developed from an early version of football which permitted players to handle the ball. Other modern variants of football allow players to handle the ball - Gaelic football and Aussie Rules and these are very popular sports. Rugby football's innovation was to allow a player to run with the ball. Rugby football is becoming more popular in countries such as Kazakhstan and Russia, who qualified for the last World Cup (Union code of the game). American football, which in America is simply called football was a development of rugby football. What you call football is called soccer by Americans.
I will enter the competition if you don't disqualify my photo for handball!

And by most English-speaking nations, including the one where both the game and the name (a contraction of Association Football) originated. What you call football is called soccer by Americans.
In a similar way to that in which soc became soccer, so rugby became rugger.

The soccer club is:

also posted in the competition section itself as I didn't know this thread existed so posting here as well-Thanks!
This was taken at the Aviva stadium in Dublin for Ireland vs. Macedonia EUFA 2012 qualifiing match. I was sitting high up in the stand, brought in my bag with lenses no bother.
This was taken with an 18-250mm lens, seems to have caught the moment just right.
I went to the stadium early and wandered around taking photos of the stadium, fans, players. I sold my 18-250mm lens to buy a 70-200mm f2.8 lens but the 18-250 is great for occasions like this.
Some of my other photos from the game are here (presume it's okay to share external urls)
