I mistakenly deleted all my photos on an external drive. Have a second back-up but some very recent photos I hadn't saved in second drive.
Have used PhotoRecovery and appear to have gotten all these photos back.
Problem is I can see them all in thumbnails but when I open them in a few different Photo programmes all I get is a grey screen.
Any answers??
Many Thanks

Earl - first question is: when you "hover" over the thumbnails (or right-click, and scroll to PROPERTIES), which file format has the thumbnails been retrieved as? (JPG, DNG, etc)

Hi Steven
The thumbnails are all JPGs as were the originals

Ok... Q.2 - which programs give you the grey screens, and which display the jpg's correctly? Whichever displays correctly, try "SAVE AS" prior to closing the image down again, or, if you are dealing with lots of "faulty" jpg's, go to your "SET DEFAULTS" from the control panel, and set the relevant successful program as the default. Hopefully, that'll fix things for you.

Steven
I've tried to open in
Microsoft Windows Photo Viewer
Office Picture Manager
Paint
Photoshop C56
Ulead Photo Explorer
All with the same result - grey screen
I really do appreciate your help
and thanks

Check your recovered file sizes, Earl. If most of them (from the metadata attached to the 2 jpg's you emailed me) have a file size of between, say, 2-8Mb, then I guess you've pretty-much recovered the photos. If the file sizes are measured in Kb, then attempt to use another recovery program - a second program might pull the "lost" files for you.

Few months ago I have lost amy all digital photos from my memory card and desperately looking for effective solution. At that time I have come to know about Digital Photo Recovery Software, which not only recover my lost pictures, but also restores them at my desired location. Therefore you should also try it once. You should also try it once because it equally works on Mac and Windows operating system
