Digital Photo Storage Device

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced Digital Photo Storage Device that will take SD memory card?

Can you be a bit more specific about what you're trying to achieve?

more oft than not I wind up recommending either buying more memory cards or gettin a laptop...in between has too many compromises for the cost involved.

Sorry I should have been more specific - I'm going to Japan on holiday and anticipate taking a lot of photos each day with my new Pentax k100D. I have a couple of 2GB SD memory cards but I'm nervous that they may fail at some point towards the end of the trip and I might lose all my images. So I was considering backing them up onto a Portable Storage Device at the end of each day just in case.

I've looked at various ones in the past most of which are slow and expensive.

Came to the conclusion that memory cards are so cheap why bother with anything else

if you own an ipod get an adaptor to back your images to it...if you always wanted an ipod now you have an excuse.

We have one from Vosonics. It was cheap an it does what it says on the packet, and is fairly fast. But it doesn't have a screen so you have to trust that things have gone right with it. An ipod and adapter is a good idea. Or just some more cards.
Maybe you ahould wait until you get to Japan - electronics are more advanced and (possibly) cheaper there. Certainly when my son used to make his twice yearly trek to Tokyo to see his (now ex) girlfriend electronics were cheaper (about the only thing that was).

I did this - It works, pictures actually look quite good - small but good - but be prepared to wait - transfer is brutally slow (especially noticeable if shooting RAW or RAW+JPG), and make sure your batteries are topped up in the camera and on the ipod...

But, having said that, I never realized how muc I NEEDED an mp3 player before getting one... (Pick up an FM transmitter to go with it and it's like having your entire CD collection with you in the car... less than 60% memory used and 10,000 songs and about 1500 photos on mine right now...)

Get yourself a Googlemail account. Go to a cybercafe every now and then and email yourself all your images.

How long will it take to upload several gigabytes?

I use .mac works great, but uploads are slow.

in fact with the .mac account, I can publish slides of my favorite images, and have my desktop macs set up to use my .mac slides as a screen saver. Then while I'm on the road, anybody at home will see my latest images pop up on my computer screensavers!

I can also use my iphoto to publish a folder as a photocast, and as I update the folder, whom ever is a subscriber to the photocast (any pc not just macs) gets a copy of the newest/ most recent copys of my files!

Ages but don't wait until you have a full card. Do some every day. It's only a security copy, anyway.

Buy a really cheap notebook PC and stick Linux on it!

Just to say thank you to everyone who responded - it was very helpful and I took the advice about using my Ipod to back up the images. I hadn't realised this was possible but I bought a £19 Ipod Camera Connector and have successfully backed up a test batch. Perfect!
