If the tail of the plane had just been that bit further right into the lighter part of the sky it would have been much better IMHO.

I would not disagree with you.
Someone with good photoshopping skills would probably 'cut out' the plane and paste it in the optimum position.
I was just pleased to get that classic silhouette.

I think you did great considering the difficulty in capturing something like that. A perfect composition is just a lucky icing on the cake, you can't spend time setting these shots up
The only thing I might have done extra is crop it a bit to enlarge the plane in the shot

I think we sometimes get too picky about precise composition. After all this is a fast moving action shot of an iconic subject. Hyram's picture captures the mood and the moment very well.
