Dedication sometimes a pain!

Has anyone been caught out as I have been by using 'Pentax Dedicated Flash'? I have a Metz CL3 and a Pentax af2oo (recently given) which are dedicated and when I was out on Friday for the 2 minutes silence with my ME Super and Metz it set 125th sec. maximum flash synch speed as soon as the flash was charged up: on some shots I needed 1/30th sec . at a smaller aperture to get better depth of field but the blighter wouldn't let me set 1/30th! I needed the flash as fill-in for my press shots, Set the aperture on flash to f2.8 and had to use f5.6 on camera lens for the 125th sec shutter speed set. Next time I'll use my ordinary Metz cable which is NOT dedicated then I can set what shutter speed I want lower than the 125th second !
