Dedicated

This truck was painted by the owner in dedication to his brother who died in Iraq.

It's obvious a lot of detail and work went into this project.

Woah! That is quite impressive.

IMHO this truk paiting makes the tribute (to his died brother) as a manifestation of great ostentation. I think that with all the great pain in his soul, the homage could be more humble and less exhibitionist.

Just my opinion about...

Dirk's first language is not english, i think he does well to express himself in a foreign language.

I understood him as saying, 'this is not an appropriate homage for a dead brother'.

I will use other words for best understanding.

I like the photo. This is a great documentary image, very nice colors, sharp and technically unobjectionable.

What I don’t like is the way the truck owner did this kind of “dedication” for his dead brother.

The painted scenes in the truck (his only contents) are just more violence (as I suppose his brother died).

If the intention of the truck owner is manifest against the war, I think this could be the way. But not adequate as a “postum” homage for a fallen soldier.

The truck looks more as a “tunned” vehicle than a tribute.

This is my personal impression after seeing the photography…

I didn't have any problem understanding your English. I don't speak any foreign languages, so you do a lot better than me.

Just asking what your comment was supposed to mean, I didn't look at the work as any kind of political statement. Just a guy in his own way coming up with tribute to his brother. The picture depicts the military, his brother died in the military serving his country. He did not get killed
by a drunk driver in New York !

I don't want to get into another political discussion, however I believe all the American haters should put their money where their mouths are and just not accept anything American in their lives. Maybe the UK should start the trend and get back to their own culture and identity, instead of copying the USA.

That's all I have to say on the subject.

You selected this image for upload to this forum section for any special reason. I think this special reason is just the originality of the image.

Generally a person shows here his photos with a particular interest; for exhibit to the public his photographic achievements; for get some comments and critiques from other photographers, and get in this way, a feedback for improve his art. And also (in some cases), for auscultate the public opinion about the aesthetics, morality, censorship, etc of his work.

What I mean in my comment and critique, is just what my eyes seen in your photography, and is IMHO, the input you were looking for.

While it's not my cup of tea I have no issue with someone honouring their departed friends or family in such a way. It's also worth noting that not everyone is against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and therefore it's necessary to accept that the viewpoint in such a case is going to be different than that of someone who is against the war.

If this chap feels that this is a fitting tribute to a fallen brother then that's fine by me and I'm not offended by it - despite my personal views being that the 2nd Gulf was was ill-advised. Note that by no means is that assessment anti-American, the other countries involved (including my own) were clearly just as ill-advised and ill-prepared for the aftermath.

BTW I was serving during the first gulf war (although not out there on active service) so can't be regarded as anti-military etc. either.

What an extraordinary thread.

Normally when people post photos, they're posted for the purpose of critiquing the photos themselves.

This one is sharp, colourful, yet composed poorly since, even in terms of depicting the subject, it doesn't show the whole thing.

But I realise this isn't the point of the shot - obviously it's a "hey take a look at this" kind of photo, not the "please comment on the technique" type.

There's no doubting the artwork took some effort. But if you say "hey, take a look at this", don't be surprised if people's opinions of the subject matter are different from your own.

I certianly have a predisposition towards disliking American trade policies and foriegn policies. Having said that, I still support the wars.

Does or should my opinions really matter here? I don't think they'll hurt anybody.

Now the imagery on that truck certianly is glorifying the air ambulances and medics...not the killing of enemy combatants.

So in my view, whether you're for or against the war, you must see the heroics of those out there on the battlefeilds trying to save lives...a beautiful tribute.

Not a bad photo either... I would like to see the whole truck though....

I was not going to comment anymore on this subject. However.

Not surprised at all. I took two shots real quick as the guy was about to leave. Only posted the first to get a better close up of the detail. I didn't post it for political reasons, just thought it would be of interest. All it did was stir some people up.

Why do all the shots posted have to be judged, why not images of interest only now and again ?
