Date issues with the K20d

I have had to reset the date on my k20d three times now. It seems determined to lose a day. The clock is right, no am/pm mix up.

Anyway it lost a day before my hols with the result that all my 1200+photos have the wrong day on them, making it impossible to geotag them.

Does anyone know how I can correct the date in the Exif in a batch operation, for the RAW files?

Any suggestions as to why the camera keeps losing a day?

To be honest, this will not be easy. If you wanted to change a number of files to have the same date and time you would be fine, but to change them all by the same amount of time is difficult unless you understand programming.

But you might find this useful. link

Gwyn ...

It will not solve your problem but might stop it happening but have you checked:

Time Zone, both hometown and destination (world time)

UK/US date format

12/24 hr - recheck it and make sure your AM/PM is correct

I have checked all of those - each time it loses a day I recheck all of those. I don't use a destination time because of geotagging the files.

I have found a program which will batch re-date jpegs, (http://tinyurl.com/mm3ufw) so I will geotag jpegs, and when I think of it/am bored/have a few minutes to spare I'll work my way through the RAW files by hand in PhotoME. Eventually I'll be able to geotag the RAW files too. A right royal pain in the behind though.

Have you reported it to Pentax?

Is it a software bug?

Set your camera date 24h. ahead, so when it loses one day, it will be back on time. It won't solve your present problem, but it will keep it from happening again.

How about putting the frimware back to the old version 1.0 then trying it.

Might work

I must've missed that one when I was doing my own research... I have a logger and geotag my jpegs, but don't currently do raws... What s/w do you use to geotag raw files ? And does the geo info in the exif follow when converting to jpg? (I use adobe or Capture One LE)

Thanks,
Jamie

Thanks to Malo (I think)I now use Geosetter ( www.geosetter.de/en ) for my RAW files. I assume the tags follow into jpegs - because of the date problem I haven't tried it yet.

I haven't reported the problem to Pentax - I wouldn't know how to. The importer here is less than helpful in my experience. I also found the camera had switched to jpeg for a few photos then went back to RAW. I changed no settings, nothing was different. Really weird. It lost days before the firmware update so that isn't it.

I think it may be heading out of the door if I can get a good price for it. Shame really as it was an unexpected present from my husband. I shall have to be very, very nice to him to get him to buy me a K-7 at it's current price. I don't think I can persuade him to take the K20D over from me now he's broken the Ds though.
