Never mind that, time to get my FA* 600mm f4 order in I think.
Looks like the K-7 is on hold again.

it seems to have dropped off the SRS price list. Got mine just in time.

Not surprised it has been discontinued, as they have the 17-70mm SDM F4 instead. Not quite as wide but goes longer. The reality was why have two lenses in the range which cover the same focal-range (more or less) at the same aperture.
I was lucky to get mine back in Feb at Focus for £180 new.

The other problem it had was that the kit lens (especially since the AL II version) is probably the best of any current manufacturer. Many people just didn't see the worth of switching to the 16-45, especially after the price hike.

I just bought the 16-45 with the K7 and I am so happy, the 16-45 lens is superb I wish I had bought it sooner,

Jack.

The problem is (I think) that Pentax really has too many lenses in this segment. 18-55 II, 16-45, 17-70 & 16-50.

Edit: Not forgetting the 18-55 WR (I should have remembered I have one!)

One at least had to go and I wouldn't have expected it to be the 18-55 or the 16-50

I'm sure the 16-45 is a star but unfortunately that many lenses covering a similar range simply doesn't make sense from a business angle.

Sadly at least one had to go

The 18-55 WR is simply the II version with the weathersealing added: optically (IIRC) it is identical. The II has now been phased out, but since it was the kit lens and was very popular lots of places still have them (and are selling them at silly prices for anyone who has somehow missed out on it).

Shame about the SDM part though

For anyone looking for a relatively affordable standard zoom, then any remaining stocks of the 16-45mm will be worth mopping up. It is an excellent lens.
Best regards, John

Yes the optical formula/glass may be the same but the construction differs so in essence it's a different model. Not only that but we do have of course the DA L 18-55 with it's plastic mount. Again the same lens wearing different clothes and step down in quality of materials from the WR version. As I said before too many lenses

By the way how do you find your Redsnapper TRI-283? Which head did you opt for? I was possibly thinking of one of these to compliment my Velbon which is little on the light side.
