DA 18-135WR or DA 18-270?

I'm thinking of retiring my ageing Sigma 18-200 and replacing it with a newer lens and the two favourites are either the DA 18-135 WR or the DA 18-270. As I already have the DA 55-300, I'm thinking the DA 18-135 WR would be the way to go, as I've often thought my Sigma wasn't too good beyond 135mm. A case of one lens being asked to do too much I imagine.

Has anyone any thoughts on this?
Cheers Paul

As you have the 55-300mm (which I would imagine is as good, if not better than the 18-270mm at the 55-270mm range) and you are happy to carry 2 lenses I would go with the 18-135mm which is fast becoming my favourite walkaround lens.

Agree with Mike. I have the 18-135mm, a great lens, and have used the 18-270mm, also very useful if maybe a shade behind the 55-300mm in performance. Not sure about that, I had the 18-270mm too short a time.

If I was buying now, I'd still probably go for the two lens option as the WR is so useful.
Best regards, John

I don't have any experience of the 18-270, but I have recently bought an 18-135mm and I'm very impressed with the quality of the images I'm getting from it - it also has a very nice "feel" to it.

The 18-135mm is great, not tried the 18-270 so can't comment on that.

There is of course the 17-70 variants about too

I've just read your review of the 18-135 John and it looks like that's the way to go for me, as then I'd have two great lenses when used with the 55-300, with neither duplicating the other much.

I'm essentially looking for a good walkround lens that has more reach than the 18-55 WR, which I find very good, but there are times and places where a lens change isn't always possible, hence my thoughts about the 18-135 potentially being a good choice, not to mention it's a stop faster at the tele end!

As ever, thanks for the feedback guys.

I've been very happy with my 18-135. It does cover a nice range, compact, silent and not frightened of a bit of rain.

Just wish the 55-300 was WR as well!
