This reminds me of books from a library.
It's not just the words in the books but also little things that people before you leave behind that makes them interesting.
It's just different then reading a book you bought new, it feels less significant so to say.
You've bought that lens to enjoy it and how silly this might sound but this part of the joy, leaving your marks on it while you use it.
Too bad there is no great story behind that mark though, but hey we can't have everything right.

Well yes I take your point Stefan, in this case I suspect 'the story' is that the screw has been gently rubbing against the inside of my kit bag while travelling a number of miles over varied terrain mostly in UK and the a little of the South of France
Must admit however I didn't expect it to 'pickup' so quickly though as I take great care over all my kit.

Perhaps you could fashion some kind of mitten for it Or a small rolled up balloon or something.

Do you think the spermicial coating will help stop lens fungus?

When I said "small balloon" I was specifically trying to avoid suggesting a condom!!! Although the ribbed ones would add some grip...
