First SDM lens to fail is my favourite...
What's the best solution?
Software fix or hardware change to screwdrive...or proper SDM repair?
Or just sell as is?...
Cheers,

I suggest repair, depends on whether you want to keep it or not, I guess it will be worth more if SDM functions (but not 150 more)

Screwdrive is fine unless you're anal about things being 100% (I'm like that but I still put up with screwdrive as it feels faster to respond!)

If it can be converted to screw, I'd just go that way.

Where's the best place for this?
Have seen an online diy guide but don't feel that confident,
Guess it comes down to cost...

Some one was offering to do the screw drive conversion for fellow Pentax Users, the post might have been removed as advertising and sadly I can't remember who made the offer. I'm sure a fellow member did the conversion for David Trout, might be worth a PM to him for a name.

I did see a fix to the K-5 firmware that could render each SDM lens screwdrive compliant...not sure if it would work on the later models...

There is the risk that sending it off to be done could render the lens completely unserviceable.

Using screwdrive lenses is painful, my macro hunts like hell on the K-1, other screwdrive lenses are ok, but prefer to use the 16-50, 60-250 and 300 as they were designed on the K-3 and same with 15-30 (although the FA* lenses are ok).

I bought s DA *50-135 that has been converted to screwdrive and don't see any difference in auto focus to the previous one I sold here 2 years ago with SDM..
