Visited the Science Museum in London yesterday and spent a while loitering under the glass footbridge they have there. Any C&C, or simply a preference, would be welcome!

The first struck me as being an abstract of a diving seal, having a look down at the photographer!

Less is more with these two IMO Tim - I'll stick with the first then...

Very good.

Excellent, well seen. I prefer no. 2, as the figures are more identifiable.

I like the simplicity of the first. Personally, I would be tempted to crop to remove the topmost and bottommost horizontals. I could see this in a lines themed competition, if one ever comes along.

Thanks folks!

iBerg it took some squinting but I can see what you mean about the seal!

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether horizontal or vertical works better? And if you think vertical should they be walking upwards or downwards?

For me, the question is more one of the direction of movement being consistent with the image's own orientation? That also makes sense given the prevailing wisdom about leaving some room in a frame for a moving subject to travel into. But then, rules are not inflexible...

I prefer the second one. I keep wondering what it would like in mono....

I prefer No 1 - I think it has more impact. Great shots and a good eye to spot the possibilities.

I'm also with DrOrloff. What does it look like if cropped down to remove the heavy lines on each side (the two verticals and two horizontals)? It strikes me that removing these details might draw ones focus more towards the silhouette.

I can only see the seal. So can't comment

Thanks for the input chaps

I was looking through the photos from that day and found a couple more on the same theme. Actually I found loads more, but these are the ones where the people aren't obscured by a support beam and have recognisable feet!

I will also try a BW version when I get home.

One interesting thing I only just noticed is the outline of the foot in number 1 is smooth, but is jagged in number 2. I puzzled over that for a while but then realised it's because 1 was shot from directly beneath, but 2 was when they hadn't yet passed directly above me (and I later corrected the perspective in LR3). I rather like the jagged edges

Gareth, while I was standing under it waiting for someone to pass overhead I did wonder if you had stood in the very same spot!
