Last night, my KR fell off a tripod. It works okay except....my status screen will no longer auto rotate.

Any ideas?
It's not about the equipment; it's the results you achieve with it.

Don't want to be the bringer of doom... I'm just cautious...

Is it still in warranty? I'd get it checked over at a service centre just in case... Might be the first of a series of failures to come...

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. I am guessing that the rotation probably works by something moving and making contact differently depending on the orientation. If so - this mechanism has possibly either become dislodged or jammed.

Sounds like a professional repair job to me. If it is not under warranty - you could try and get a repair quote.

Although I have to say - it is a fault I could live with.

Well, as long as nothing else craps out on the bloody thing, I think I can put up with it

If it's still under warranty you'd have been better off keeping quiet than announcing to the world that it fell off the tripod

I would guess that the auto rotating of the status screen is possibly linked to the SR mechanism, and if this is the case I suspect it could be bad news. I would get it checked if I were you.

No. Shake reduction icon comes on OK. I will get it looked at at some point. Still got my K7 and a shedload of 35mm gear to be joined today by a K1000

On holiday a couple of weeks ago, my KR was in the shoulder back which fell off something onto the floor. Later, when I opened the bag, the filter on the front of the Sigma 10-20 F4-F5.6 was shattered, and the zoom function on that lens might be a bit "sticky" - but the KR appeared to survive unharmed!
BTW - this is the SECOND time that Sigma has taken a fall like this with the camera body behind it (First time it had the GX-10 behind it in quite a big drop from waist height) => that is one TOUGH lens !
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

This underscores the importance (for me) of ALWAYS keeping a filter and cap on your lens EVERY SECOND the camera is not in use. It's a no-brainer.

Unless you become one of the many people that have had their lenses scratched or otherwise damaged by filters that shattered whilst on the lens and that would probably have survived unscathed without the filter.

There are pros and cons to with/without and this is an old debate that will never be settled. Each person should evaluate the options and choose a way that suits them. Personally I will never keep a filter on any of my lenses unless being used in a very windy/dusty/sandy/salty environment.

In my case, the Sigma front element is still unmarked after both broken filters - although I did have to be very carefull how I removed the remains of the glass from the last filter from it (the first filter to go was a Tiffin ND - but that was plastic, and just fractured but did not actually fragment)

It's not just the front element, there are a number of cases where the thread has been so damaged by the filter that it becomes non-viable after the broken filter has been removed.

Front elements, especially in modern lenses, are as tough as nails and really don't need the 'protection' of a weak glass filter.

As I said pros and cons and we must each balance the odds and choose our own path.

Perversely (for you at least!) my view is that, if anything, the threads on those lenses where that happened would have been damaged anyway, and probably to a greater extent, if they had taken the full force of the impact instead of those impacts being on the external thread of the filters - since the latter is likely to spread, and thus lessen, the force on the thread on the lens behind it. !
