Watching your photos on a CRT and I can see some light magenta colour cast on the right side of your first image not on the left side though.
On the second image I see no cast (looking with 21 year young eyes here :wink

just checked with my laptop and no colour cast here, I shall print the first one later so that you have some more feedback and I'm also curious how acurate my monitor now is

I can see slight vignetting on your second posting of the image,on both sides but not top or bottom, nothing on the first image and no colour cast on either.

LCDs arent known for there colour accuracy so there might be a problem there that's why I still have a trusted CRT here, I simply don't have the money to buy an eizo.

okay just printed your first image which had a light colour over it (on my screen) with a Canon ip4500 on canon matt photopaper and using the colour profile for that with the help of Photoshop cs3.
Looking at the wet photo now and there is a very but really very slight hint of magneta there corresponding almost too my monitor atleast.
I'm looking at it under a TL light don't know what colour they give though but mostly yellow right?

Sorry to take so long to reply, been doing visiting the relatives thing.

Scott, I don't have another monitor I'm afraid, I`ll pay a visit to a friend next week, he has a crt and should be interesting to compare.

Anvh, Thanks for helping and going to the trouble of printing, your results are interesting and helpful. I have looked at my prints in daylight and tungsten light, and I can see a slight cast, but not nearly as bad as on my monitor.

Going out this morning to take some test shot using different lenses just so I can compare. Just as a thought, could a very high iso setting and the fact that it was foggy lead to a colour cast:

Thanks all for helping here, your comments are most appreciated
Cliff.

I know its getting close to party time folks, but could I have some feedback please. I took about 30 pics early today and a lot of them have a magenta colour cast down both sides. Is this due to bad exposure, or something along those lines.

I don't see any colour cast down both sides, by eye I see a slight green tinge on lhs and slight pink tinge on rhs and about even in middle. (NB awaiting huey replacement!)

RGB values are
topleft: 130/128/139; topright 141/139/153
botleft: 81/81/85; botright 82/78/88
suggests too much blue in the white balance to me, the histogram looks like blue channel is shifted to the right a bit.

silkypix greypt tool gives ~7000 for lopleft, 7300 for topright and 7132 in topmiddle (and corrects the blue shift in WB in all cases) which suggests slight range in WB across the scene to me.

solution ? set the WB to area near the topmiddle and then poss a gradient colour shift via photoshop, but I'm at beginner level in elements so don't know how, I've concentrated on trying to learn as much as poss about RAW conversion stage.

FWIW your later post (20.17) looks similar to me wrt colour 'shift'

hope this helps

On my friend's Mac I can see the magenta band very clearly down the right hand side along with some vignetting. Not sure what caused it though. Artificial light to the side, maybe?

For these images one "cure" would be to convert them to B&W. They are almost monochrome anyway.

Best wishes, Kris.

Thanks womble, thought I was going funny for a while there . There was no artificial or ambient light from the sides at all, I thought it could be due to under exposure along with the high iso setting that was used, but that's just a guess .

Cheers .
Cliff.

Thanks bladerunneruk, I think I've got my head around what your telling me, as I am very new to digital photography as well. Im trying to learn about layers at the moment. All interesting stuff.
