Tim, he's cleaning the surfaces with a spraygun, in preparation for the outer layers no doubt. I'm wondering if this surface represents solar panels?

Having said that, what I do like in the first shot is the feeling that the figure almost walks on a horizontal plane. Then your eye is wandering up in the shot and the plane becomes more and more vertical. But it could be only me seeing it that way.
On balance and having seen the side by side I think the first one is the better picture.

I'm not sure what is causing a weird, pale yellow cast in this, but what the hell, its not in the original.
