Hi - there will be a few more Techy-minded member to help with the first question, but on the 2nd question then Yes - you can buy an inexpensive Micro SD to SD SDHC CARD ADAPTOR - such as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Micro-SDHC-ADAPTOR-Plastic/dp/B00CCDS7VM (this is not a recommendation by the way, just an example).

If it's purely to browse and transfer images, I'm not sure if that will work with a tablet, it may have to be a "fully-fledged" PC/Mac.
For years I've used a Toshiba FlashAir card in my K3 to transfer images to my phone and this would also work with a tablet. It's an excellent little device with capacities up to 64GB.

If the tablet uses Windows operating system, there shouldn't be a problem. It should behave the same as a Windows PC. If the tablet uses Android operating system, it depends... Android itself has the capability but something (don't ask me what...:shock also needs to be done via hardware and not all manufacturers do it. My Android phone can't use USB to browse and copy files from another device to the phone. However, I can use another device (e.g. a PC) to browse and copy via USB files that are on the phone. The ability to use an Android device both ways is called 'On The Go' (OTG). If the tablet has OTG, you can use it like a PC to browse and copy via USB. If it doesn't, you can't.
With a bit of luck, the tablet's documentation should say whether it's OTG. More likely, you'll have to use the time-honoured method of try it and see what happens!

I have an Android Samsung S3 tablet and can view and download images from the K70 via the USB cable with no trouble at all. You just use Samsung file explorer and the camera is visible. I can then download, edit in Lightroom and save images to the tablet micro sd card or to my network hard drive. Jonathan-Mac wrote:

Far less trouble using the tablet than using the Apple Macbook Pro which was hit and miss in seeing the camera when connected via the USB cable. The Macbook was so much trouble, having actually destroyed an SD card and left another unreadable by the camera, that I have now replaced it with a Windows based laptop.

Thank you to all of you. I phoned 'technical support' of the supplier of the tablet, and it still sounds hit or miss whether a cable connection will work.
Therefore my next question is: will putting a Micro SD card in a Micro SD to SD SDHC card adaptor and putting that in mny K-x camera work?
I asked this question to Ricoh Pentax support and they replied "I would not advise to use a micro SD card in your camera even though adapters are available." but did not explain why.
Has anyone got experience of this, particularly with a K-x camera?

I think the caution is down to the fact you are introducing an extra set of connections. That should not cause a problem, but might.

Not saying it's "best practice" but I use micro SD cards in adaptors all the time in my K-3. Raw files to a full size card, jpeg to a micro SD card in the other slot.
If I want to quickly email an image, I pop the micro SD card into my 'phone.

Thank you to all who responded. I went for a Micro SD card in an adaptor and it works. Ricoh Pentax came back to say they knew of cases where the card gets stuck in the camera, so I will have to keep that in mind. Cannot say I am a fan of everything being further miniaturised.

My Pentax K-x came with a cable connecting from the small port on the left side of the camera to a standard USB port on my laptop. I've just acquired a tablet (first one) and the connecting port is 'Micro USB'. (Also there is a 'Micro HDMI.) Is there a cable I can get which will connect from the camera into this port?
Also, the new tablet has a slot for a 'Micro-SD' card. Can I fit a Micro-SD card into the camera?
