Competitions

Sine joining a couple of weeks ago I have enjoyed the competitions. Would it not be useful for the judges to offer a little explanation as to what features led to their winning decision? Settings? Composition? Subject? It would help novices like me understand what others find appealing and what standards can or should be achieved.

Hi David

There are two distinct types of competition. The first is the Quarterly, which is judged by the Editorial Team. Winners and runners up are published, but there is no feedback.

The second type offers feedback by the judge. Look at the menu bar and go to Gallery>Competitions.

The Weekly has been running for over 400 weeks now. The judge chooses a winner and also provides feedback. The winner sets and judges the next week's competition, and so on. Images can be any age.

The Monthly is similar, but entries must be shot specially during the month of the competition. In this way, challenges are set.

In the forums you'll find a Competitions section, and this is where competitions are discussed. I'm moving this thread there now.

Hope that helps!
Best regards, John
