I think you can delete but it will not let you re enter. It's done so people can not change their mind after seeing another entrants image

But you're allowed to look at all the entered photos and change your mind in the mean time if you submit your photo just before closing time.
So the ones that enter early are being punished but sadly the world is never fair...

I just enter what I want to enter not what I think might 'beat the opposition'

I agree it is unfortunate that a sudden change of mind or even someone uploading the wrong image in error cannot be accomodated.

Ah well it are the rules though.

But what i'm trying to say in my previous comment was that i can not see why these measures are taken for the reasons that Barrie states.
What is the bad thing with changing your image when you shoot a better one after you submitted or had a change of heart?
For my care you want to change ur photo because your neighbor has shot a better one, late entries have the same advantages right so what's the reason behind this?
And hell... if you can change your image the neighbor can do it as well and upload once again a better one XD
So change ur image because of other entries get a bit pointless that way anyways.

I already had asked this but never got an answer

It was apparent that a small number of people were changing their images, so that's why the change was made. We all get one shot at entering only, so it's a level playing field. That is the rule, so please take due care that you upload the right image.
Best regards, John

I agree with the rule being strictly adhered to. Look at it from the point of view of the judge who usually starts preparing comments as soon as the entries begin coming in. In this way by the end of the week or fortnight all he or she has to do is make a final decision on the placings and then submit the prepared comments. If competitors chop and change along the way the poor judge will have a nightmare job on the deadline. It would seriously delay publishing the results and comments, especially in the weekly competitons when there are often big entries.

A very good point, but it would be handy for those who upload the wrong image if they could be allowed to correct the error within say 5 minutes of first uploading :
