Compact - Manual or Auto Power Off..??

How do you set your compact (if you have one) to shutdown?
Do you manually switch it off after taking each picture or do you let it power down automatically after a set time?

On my Panasonic LX7 the minimum auto power off time is one minute. This is the same for both the LCD and lens retract. The lens has to be retracted before I can put it in its case.

So, sorry if this appears a stupid question, but which is best? Let it power down automatically and wake it back up by pressing any button, or switch it off manually with the power on/off switch and switch back on using same?

The main differences I can see are:
Waiting for it to power down automatically uses more LCD battery power (and even worse my time waiting).
Switching off and on manually for each picture causing increased wear on on/off switch.

Thank you.

I set all my cameras to manual switch off. It's very annoying if the camera keeps switching off when I'm shooting a sequence of images.

Thanks John
I usually use the compact when out cycling, so after taking each picture I like to put the camera back in its case and set off. Having to wait for one minute before it auto powers off is too long. One minute while waiting seems like five..!! My concern is that constantly switching it off manually via the on/off switch will prematurely wear the switch out. Am I being too over concerned with this?

Also, what is the difference if any, in battery consumption between switching the camera off/on via the power switch compared to letting it wait for auto shutdown. The lens operation is the same, it's the LCD on time that's different.

To be honest, I think it's over-thinking things. The switch shouldn't be an issue, but use the auto off if it's more convenient.

My shooting buddy used to limit the amount of pictures he took because he didn't want to wear the shutter out. yes really. True Story

He's got a little better since I started playing him this on a regularly basis
