Nice shot John, I was there about 2 weeks ago and again yesterday. Unfortunately a lot of the flowers that attract large groups of butterflies had died off in the meantime. There were still a few around though.
For anyone living within traveling distance Martin Mere is well worth the visit. It's being extended all the time and they have a lot of rare ducks, geese, swans (at least 4 types), flamingos, cranes, otters etc.

We joined WWT last year and have just renewed. So far we have visited Caerlaverock, Martin Mere and Slimbridge. Next on the list is Washington.
All these sites have a different character of their own. I really liked the meadows at Caerlaverock.

We are always wary of finding we have been somewhere a few times and thinking we might as well join. That might be the last time we go, and that has happened in the past.
Happily, Martin Mere is somewhere that can be revisited time and again, so we are members of WWT, English Heritage and National Trust. That just about covers us wherever we go.

We're also members of WWT and find that I'll do a couple of hours at Slimbridge and come away when it gets to crowded every 3 or 4 weekends rather than feel to stay all day to get ££££ worth.
Been to Arundel and London WWT as well, recomend both sites

Nice shot John - I love the graduated shades of blue. I have seen these on rare occasions in Richmond park near me but yet to capture one in my viewfinder. Odds on I'll have to wait until next year now.
Thanks all for the recommendations re: Martin Mere... I have some annual leave in the offing and may well take a trip there.

Beautiful shot, John. I know how hard it is to capture butterflies in good light, in focus, without a distracting background...
Best wishes,
Andrew
