If I went back there it would be to fire-bomb the "olde towne flower shoppe"! Oh I hate that!
Looks nice and sharp, I tried looking for CA in the small tree branches and couldn't see any. Looks like an ideal all-purpose lens for the times that you don't want to carry a bagful around.

The trouble is, none of these is taken wider than 29, nor longer than 92.Looks nice and sharp
If you're going to get a superzoom then you're going to want to use it at the extremes - or at least a lot closer to them than these.
So these shots are Ok as far as they go, but they don't really show anything about its usefulness in the circumstances where it would really count.

Chris,
I forgot to add this image.
Murals are painted on buildings all over the town of Silverton, hard to get full shots on some due to cars parked in front.
I more than doubled the size on my Mac Screen, the artist and code is very clear painted on the right near the bottom behind the car antenna. (LLWED 60 OHS 27265)
1/60. F4.0. 18mm.
Cheers, RG.

Crackin' pics. Why did you sort of apologise for the wires in pic 1? You took a shot of what was there and the wires are part of that. To me, too many people want perfection, but the world is full of imperfections so we should accept them. I'm glad you didn't get run over trying to miss them out of your shot. A lot of the critique that comes out reminds me of HiFi equipment reviews that seem to ignore the music and listen to the sound system. Sure that's what they are being paid to do, but after a certain point they are splitting hairs. If the man who shot the Hindenburg burning set his camera up properly we would never have had the legendary images that we all know.

Let me guess it has nothing to do with flowers but a lot to do with mock period spelling.Excellent results, Colour and sharpness look first class.

I was really asking for comments on the performance of the Lens, not about the wording on a sign.
Thanks for the other comments.

I like the pics of the duckies.
is the foreground slightly blurred due to the depth of field or is it softening of the edges?

Just realised we might have been through Silverton when we went to the Silver Falls State Park some years ago.
Posting shots online and asking whether the lens looks any good is a bit hit and miss, because, unless the lens is awful, the shots will usually look fine. Reducing the size for display will (should) always increase the apparent sharpness, and it's hard to see whether there's any CA at this size too.

Yes you probably did go through Silverton. It's a quaint town (by American West standards) with lots of old victorian style houses.
I did enlarge all the Silverton images to more than double the size on my Mac Screen and they all looked pretty good to me.
From my perspective, I would guess most digital images shot never get shown, or even hung on a wall over a size 8X10 or 11X14.
Unless one is a pro I wonder if it makes any sense to spend a small fortune on a bag full of lenses for that purpose.
I am just trying to get an idea from people on this forum what they think about the lens. After all everyone that posts images gets to upload the same size, regardless of what lens is used.
This lens is in a class of it's own, (Tamron make the Pentax 18-250 as well) so getting other valid points of view is great.
Cheers, RG.

Shot RAW. Aperture. iPhoto.
I wanted to further test this lens with the camera set on full Auto. (A few of the same shots I also did with User Mode.)
The shot of the Horse Sign on the wall could only be taken from the sidewalk which included the wires. Would have to have stood in the middle of the street to get rid of the wires, too much traffic. Rather than resize the heck out of it I left the wires in. Just wanted to see if I could read the signature info on the bottom of the painting. I jacked the size of the image way up on the monitor, it looks very good to me.
I am going back to shoot these same locations with some of my other more expensive lenses and compare quality. It should be very interesting.
Comments on the performance of the K10D and this lens welcome.
Cheers, RG.
