Funny this, I have the same issue when viewing K-3 DNG files but fine with all JPEGs and also fine with K-5IIs DNG's. Also, all are fine in Photoshop and Adobe Camera RAW, but Adobe Bridge will not render the K-3 DNG's. I've mentioned this before and found no solution to date.

I'd recommend just forgetting Windows Photo Viewer - try Fullscreen Photo Viewer, you'll see your photos in much higher quality ...

What colour space are you saving the images in, or if shooting Jpeg, what colour profile are you using on the camera? Adobe RGB will look washed out in Windows Photo Viewer. For display on the web, or in the photo viewer, they need to be saved in sRGB.

Camera set to sRGB. However, it is the fact that when I view an image on the web, i.e. the puffins, from an earlier post, they look fine. When viewed via Win Photo viewer they look grey and washed out - as per the link in my OP.What colour space are you saving the images in, or if shooting Jpeg, what colour profile are you using on the camera? There does not appear to be a way of adjusting the image display properties in Win Photo Viewer.

Just loaded the program and can immediately see the difference - thank you for that. Never noticed a problem with Win Photo Viewer in earlier iterations of Win - must be something MS have done in Win 7 onwards?

I don't know - I always found the built in viewer very lame - images seem softer when seen on it as well. Are your colours OK now with Fullscreen Viewer? I'm very glad you like it. My image managment software allows me to place a link in the right-click options to any other programme, so I can right-click any image and open it directly in Fullscreen Viewer. But if using Windows explorer, then set windows default to 'Fullscreen Photo Viewer' - images should open automatically in the new software then - there are green left/right arrows at the bottom for clicking between each image in a entire folder. Be aware it will not 'see' RAW files, so you need a catalogue-type programme for that.

I'm not on commission I assure you Philip! Can't remember now where I first read about it, but it was a book of some sort - probably on image organisation or something. But glad you've found it useful too - it has always made images very clear looking for me.

I've just downloaded Fullscreen Photo Viewer and it doesn't recognise DNG's! So no good for me I'm afraid and it hasn't solved the K-3 DNG rendering issue.
Thanks for the suggestion though Nigel.

If you want a really good image management solution that builds a database catalogue of all your files, including any RAWs, then try iMatch ... the developer is 'photools.com'.
