Nice series Neighbour!
I like the head-on giraffe shot a lot. The vulture shot is also very good but the crop is very tight. Also the lion shot is excellent, you've captured a classic pose, but I think it could benefit from increasing the contrast and possibly saturation. With a little more 'pop' I think that photo might be the standout image from this series.
Funnily enough I was also at Colchester Zoo over the summer, it was one of my first set of photos I posted here I have almost the same photo of a monkey lying on the same bridge

Right. I revisited the RAW file of "Mr Lion" in Samsung RAW converter (which incidentally I think it a brilliant piece of software) and came up with this:

A big improvement I think. I boosted contrast and saturation and applied 100% Unsharp when saving as JPEG.
It's funny because since getting the GX20, my post production skills have improved just as much as my photography. I really enjoy the process of "developing" the RAW files.

Matt the new lion is excellent. You've really brought out the detail in his face and mane, and emphasized the browns at the same time. A great improvement! In fact it looks like it was taken with a completely different lens
Regarding sharpness I think it's mainly in the PP (your new lion proves that!), although don't forget that I was using a prime lens with a pretty good reputation for sharpness. You probably already know this, but keep in mind that shooting in RAW means you have to sharpen everything since you don't get the in-camera sharpening you would get with JPEGs.

Oooh jeez you've got me now. I've never used the Samsung Raw Converter, or even the Pentax Raw Converter for that matter, as I am a Mac user using Aperture to handle my RAW files. As a best guess I would say that 'detail' probably corresponds to 'definition' in Aperture which is a micro-contrast setting. Noise reduction is just that, reduce noise but increase softness. Unsharp mask is a sharpening technique where they blur the whole image and then perform some black magic where they subtract the blurred version (the 'mask') from the original, which leaves a sharper image. That's my non-scientific explanation and I'm sticking to it
