The black rings around the trunks are grease marks left last century to save the trees from an insect infestation.

Lovely colours and composition in the first one. There are some nice off road cycle tracks in Clumber, always worth a visit, thanks for the heads up.

Liking the composition in #1 very much - and nice contrast between the green leaves still on the trees against the orange/brown fallen leaves.
Used to go to Clumber a lot when I was 'youth' (some time ago now...), so really nice to see pics from here
