Chrysalis

A chrysalis dropped out of the back of an old TV while lifting it. It seemed like a reason to do a long-promised modification to my macro rig to make it easier to use bellows and a good excuse to play with some older non-macro lenses. Here are some of the results. I've no idea what species of moth or butterfly it is or even whether it's still alive.

First one (the full creature) taken with F 50mm f1.7 in normal configuration, the others taken with reversed FA 28mm f2.8, both mounted on a Pentax A bellows with a K3 on the other end. All are focus stacks with point of focus changed by moving the back-standard. The first is about x1 magnification, the others about x5 - x6.

I don't have a TV but if I did I'd be horrified to find something like that lurking inside it.

Fantastic macros. If it is alive it should twitch its tail as you handle it.

JohnX - Large white is definitely possible, we get a lot of them and some find their way indoors.

davidwozere - Thank you, the tail doesn't twitch so my conscience is clear - I didn't glue a living creature to a bit of wire. And it can now stay there for a few more macro experiments .
