Not quite one of your best this Alistair, the framing's a bit tight and the focus is just a tad off. The net result is an image that is not as striking as some you have posted in this genre.

I'm not saying it's a bad image because it isn't, but you have set yourself high standards.

I think shooting wide open and getting only one eye in focus is something I need to move away from

Some of the great portrait photographers are shooting F8 and beyond.

Doesnt matter in any event as Im shooting all film at the moment

I think the trick is to get both eyes in focus and a diffused background. My preference is F4 to F5.6 or so for this type of image, of course it also depends on the focal length and the distance of the subject from lens and background.

You have nailed most of yours Alistair, hence my previous comment that you have set high standards.
