cheap raynox solution to macro

Was interested in finding an inexpensive way into macro this is the cheapest I've found this at.

I cannot comment on this one but I have a Marumi close-up filter which gives excellent results, the difference being it has a conventional thread so for different size lenses needs an adaptor ring. Handy and small enough to keep in the bag for when an opportunity arises.

seen this one recommended on Pentaxforums .com and gets some good write ups there. there are some gret insect pics taken on there with it too. its sitting 20 quid cheaper than amazon and one on ebay for a lot more good buy I think.

It's a pretty decent and cheap way to get into macro. Especially if your not sure it's for you. Works well on most lenses, if using a zoom, just zoom out till the vignetting stops.
They're light and cheap, and add no real weight in your bag.
If you don't like it, sell it on.

I've got one, tried it on my D-FA100 and it was pretty macro-y. Not used it outdoors though, might be an idea for when the weather improves.

If you already own a 135mm lens then buy a cheap set of Russian bellows off E bay. It will set you back all of £10. You might need a Pentax M42 to K mount adapter, depending on your 135mm's mount. That will give you better than 1:1 macro and much better than Raynox for considerably less cash ! Derek will confirm that this arrangement can be hand held around the garden with no trouble at all. Google "how to use macro bellows" for instructions (it's easy).

Hi Dave and thanks for the tip however I was wanting something portable and easy to just use when I'm on my travels which didn't involve going to the expense of buying a new lens, and although your option could be done on a budget the convenience of the Raynox wins it for me.

I carry a Raynox DCR-250 around with me all the time, excellent bit of kit. It's best on lenses above 135mm and can also give you much closer magnification on a macro lens should you really get into it.

I remember now why I opted for the Marumi screw on option, it fits on the Pentax 100mm macro lens but at 49mm that’s too small for the Raynox. Good to hear other’s experience of the Raynox and Mike’s examples really sell it. Neat idea to just clip onto the lens but it’s size limits the lens choice.

It fits on the 49mm macro fine with the supplied adapter ... goes all the way up to around 67mm if I remember correctly.

I just realised the one I have is the MSN-505. Really high magnification but quite challenging to use.
