I bought one of those for my lens kit, it seems to work, don't have anything to compare it too, now tempted to buy one for my 16-45mm... any thoughts?

There are plenty of reviews 'out there', and Forum members I'm sure, who will argue quite rightly that you get what you pay for.

If you compare what you have against a top of the range item from the likes of Hoya, B+W, Marumi, etc, you will see a differance, but at the end of the day if you're happy with the one you've already got, why not buy another? Hardly costs the earth, does it?

If you find you use it enough, buy a better one when you have the spare cash.

For my own part, when I bought a CPL, I did buy the best I could based on comparative reviews. I chose a Marumi DHG Super.

I bought a cheap one - once, but never again. In my experience Hoya Pro is a good CPL.

Here's a link - someone on this forum pointed this out previously:

http://lenstip.com/115.4-article-Polarizing_filters_test_Results_and_summary.htm...

Can't remember who it was (but I am very grateful). It directed me to the Marumi DHG and I'm very happy with it. Comes high in the overall testing and, considering the price, comes second in the economy rating.

thx for that.
will have a proper look at the article. It just seems a bit tricky to compare a £80 filter with a £6.75 filter!
I bought a basic Hoya CPL filter a few years back and it broke after probably 3 days of use, I am guessing this wouldnt happen with the higher range though. It's the same dilemma I have with the fish eye, got an fish eye adaptor (gadget) for $30, now looking to buy a proper one but it £300 - for the occasional photographer that I am not sure it's really worth it!

The article compares the filters in the top table but then has a second table for economy (basically comparing performance to cost). I bought the 72mm filter from Microglobe. It was only £39 which seemed very good value for such a high performer. It's also very slim which is a bonus.

If you were going to get a circular polariser for another lens then I'd be tempted to consider the article and pick the best one in your price range.

Not sure about the fish-eye adapter. Generally I think adapters are a compromise and, to get the best quality, you really need to buy a dedicated lens. However, as you point out, £300 for occasional use may not be worth it.

It might have been me I also bought a Marumi DHG based on the LensTip article, been very happy with it. One cost-saving measure is to buy one big CPL which fits your largest lens (Sigma 10-20mm in my case), and then some cheap ebay step down rings to use it on your other lenses. This is what I did, bought a 77mm Marumi CPL, plus 77->67 and 77->62 step down rings so I could use it on some of my other lenses. Just be aware that you often cannot use a hood with a step down ring.

After reading this I popped off to Amazon and they had the Marumi DHG Super CPL in 49mm at £14.95 so I bought one, especially as the RRP is about £84.

I didn't expect it to arrive as it must have been a typo - but it did. This has brightened as otherwise rotten week.

I will be interested to see if I use it and if deserves second place in that review.

That is a great deal Mike. I just went to Amazon to have a look at 67mm Marumi DHGs filters and they are £122

prices on amazon for CPL's go up and down like yo-yo's (quite extremely, too) - you basically have to keep looking every day...
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...
